SE46 Bristol, Clifton Suspension Bridge

Delicately spanning the rocky, wooded 250 foot deep Avon Gorge like a spiders web, the bridge was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and completed in 1864, incorporating 1500 tones of steel. In 1836, Brunel was commissioned by Bristol City Council, but only the abutments were built before work stopped through lack of funds. The bridge was eventually completed 5 years after Brunel's death by the Institute of Civil Engineers as a tribute to their former colleague. Close to the bridge is an observatory which provides visitors with a panoramic view of the city.
