SE39 Wellington Arch, the Screen and Aspley House, London |
||
|
Designed by Decimus Burton and erected in 1828 near Aspley House. Matthew Cotes Wyatt's statue of Wellington which once stood here was removed to Aldershot in 1883 when the arch was moved to the top of Constitution Hill. It is now surmounted by a bronze group, the Quadriga by Adrian Jones, a former officer in the 3rd Hussars. Jones held a dinner for right people inside one of the horses shortly before the completion of his four years labour on the group. Inside the Arch is a police station, which after the one in Trafalgar Square is the smallest in london.
